Poker Run Engine is designed by Bill Heckler — a solo tabletop system built around nothing more than a standard 52-card deck.
Every overlay shares the same core resolution system, reskinned for a different world — from Victorian monster-hunting to cyberpunk data-heists to post-apocalyptic convoy runs. Each one is a complete, standalone game on its own; no overlay requires any other purchase to play.
The System Reference Document (SRD) is free, and exists for a different reader: anyone who wants to see how the engine is built and design an overlay of their own.
